Palmetto Lagoon Charters - Charter Boat Fishing Info

Hilton Head Light Tackle Fishing Trips
At Palmetto Lagoon Charters, we use very light tackle to make it more challenging and fun for the angler. The fishing gear is top of the line G-Loomis saltwater rods with Shimano Stradic reels. All reels are loaded with Power-Pro fishing line. The green water rod by G-Loomis has been our favorite rod to use on our light tackle Hilton Head charters.

We are pro staffers with G-Loomis, which gives us the ability to have many different types of rods to use on the charter boat. For an average day fishing, we will carry up to ten to twelve set-ups to fish with. It is very important, when live bait fishing, that you have a variety of different size rods to choose from. Each rod we carry on the boat is matched to the size of the bait we will be fishing with.

If live bait is not your thing, we have found that certain types of artificial lures works very well. Early in the morning, top water lures like Zara Spooks work well in the waters of Hilton Head. For mid-day fishing, soft plastic jigs and swim baits are the ticket for deeper waters. We can catch these fish with almost any lure you choose. Give us a call at 843-301-4634.

Hilton Head Fly Fishing Trips
Fly fisherman are always welcome at Palmetto Lagoon Charters. We cater to all levels of fly fishermen on Hilton Head, from first-timers to master anglers. We will gladly supply all of the fly rods and fishing gear, if needed. Fly fishing gear starts at a six-weight all the way up to a ten-weight fly rod. All reels are loaded with twenty-pound gelspun backing with Airflows tropical saltwater weight fored line.

During the winter months, we change out our fly line to a cold water line by airflow. This change makes casting the fly rod easier and improves our fishing experience. The fly rods we use are by G-Loomis and are top of the line. The new GLX saltwater rod is unbelievable and has proven to be one of the best fly rods Captain Trent has ever used.

The reels are also manufactured by G-Loomis and are perfectly matched to each fly rod. The reels are set up for left hand retrieve only. By request, we can have right hand retrieve available for you.

A quick note about fly patterns; fly patterns with natural material are preferred when fishing the waters around Hilton Head Island. Synthetic material does not have the same movement as natural materials and are less effective. Most fly patterns are modeled after the bait fish we typically use: Finger mullet, menhaden, pin fish, spot and shrimp.
